Did You Know There Is A 'National Lash Day'?
I had no idea the 'holiday' existed until this morning. Believe it or not, it's a real thing. Every February 19th since 2015 it's been a holiday. It caught my attention because there are three types of makeup that I refuse to be without...lipstick, eyeliner and you guessed it, mascara. So, since 'National Lash Day' is coming in a couple of days, let's look at how to build (and keep) your lashes healthy and looking great.
When it came to eyelashes, I was lucky. My lashes were naturally long and thick. But in my early twenty's, I wanted them longer and thicker. I worked for a local cable company, and I had a co-worker, Gina, who was about my age and wore long, thick false lashes. At that time, lashes were nowhere near as popular as they are now. If you wore long false lashes, you got a lot of attention. Some of that attention may have been unwanted but you got a lot of it anyway. However, special events (like a wedding) were exceptions.
Gina worked in the front of the store. She would deal with customers face to face. I worked in the back and dealt with customers via the phone. Once when I went to the front of the store to deliver documents, Gina was assisting a customer. I would guess he was in his mid to late sixties at the time. I heard him say to her, "Are you trying to be Marilyn Monroe?" She smiled and very sweetly said, "No. I think she was blonde. I'm brunette. Besides, she had way more money than I will ever have." Shortly after I heard that exchange, I became bold enough to wear long false lashes like hers. I wore the very long thick ones known as Hussies. I wore them for a few weeks. Eventually, I wore lashes that were shorter and less flashy. Two years later, I stopped wearing them all together. I realized that if I took care of my own lashes, my lashes would be healthy and strong.

Here are a few tips I did to build and maintain eyelash heath.
1. Moisturize your lashes. I use petroleum jelly. There are a few other oils you may want to try for moisturizing your eyelashes: aloe vera, castor oil, coconut oil, vitamin E oil and olive oil. Apply with a small amount at night. Wash it off in the morning.
2. Brush and / or comb your eyelashes regularly with an eyelash brush or comb. You can get both with Avon's Creme Shop All Natural Bamboo Brow and Lash Comb. It is one small piece of equipment. One side is a comb. The other side is a brush.
3. Be sure to clean your lashes after wearing mascara. Try using Avon's fmg Makeup Remover Wipes.
4. Use a lash serum for growth. I recommend Avon's Anew Clinical Unlimited Lashes and Brow Activating Serum.
5. Eat foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids like some seafoods (sardines, herring, salmon, oysters), nuts (walnuts), and seeds (chia, flaxseed).
6. Take supplements and vitamins to start the process from the inside. Take Avon's Inner Beauty Hair, Skin, and Nails.
